Touring the Dublin Castle

We had a free day in Dublin today.  A group of us went to the Dublin Castle, another group went on a Game of Thrones Tour, and a third went to the Dublin Zoo.  The Dublin Castle is rich with Irish history and is still used for important events today.  The tour started with us looking at some of the old stonework of the castle that was still intact, the Gun Powder Tower.  We saw the stairs and entrance where the supplies for the castle were brought in by way of the moat.  Then we were taken to the Royal Chapel and given a brief history.  The chapel was used for service in the past, but is now used for events such as music, videos, and other events the city holds.  The tour then moved inside of the renovated castle, which now appears as more of a palace than a medieval castle.  We saw the James Connolly room, which was used as a hospital room during the Easter Rising. This was where James Connolly was taken after he was injured, so that he could and then undergo trial for his acts, but wouldn't have made it for that long because his injuries were becoming gangrenous. So he was tried in that room and sentenced to death by a firing squad, but he couldn't stand, so he was tied to a chair and shot. The next room we visited was the Throne Room which was modernized for Queen Victoria, and also had a chandelier made of bronze that was so heavy that the ceiling had to be reinforced to hold its weight. The last room that we were taken to was St. Patrick's Hall.  This hall was covered in a royal blue and gold, and there was the emblem of the order of the last knight of St. Patrick on display, alongside all of the crests from all of the Knights.
Afterwards some students went to the Guiness Factory, some went to the Jamison Factory, and others went shopping. To finish off the night some students went to the oldest bar in Dublin, The Brazen Head.
